Are you on Facebook? Myspace? or Linked In?

By: Crystal Liazuk

Staying socially connected for many of us is an everyday routine, whether it’s with Facebook, Linked In, or Myspace and now with the up and coming Twitter. I have heard employers talk about how they look at an applicant’s Facebook or Myspace page before they call them in for an interview. You don't want your page to be the first impression an employer gets from you before they meet you. Setting your page to PRIVATE as well as setting your picture and comment settings for your approval before it gets posted will help keep what you don’t want seen by those who can affect your future. You don’t want to be ruled out, before you make it to an interview, because of what your friends post on your page. I also think that putting a scenery photo for your profile picture is a great neutral picture.

Good Article
It's a fact that in college there are many pictures that 10 years later might be viewed as unprofessional and perhaps quite embarassing. Keeping this off your facebook profile is highly recommended. Since we all know once a picture is posted on cyber space, it becomes uncontained. In order to raise awareness to this issue, I personally decided to post my own college pictures on facebook. If you happen to interview me in Future Tense, please keep in mind these pictures are Past Tense, so enjoy them as found memories the way I do
